Carbon nanomaterials such as carbon nanotubes, graphene, nanoparticles, etc. continue to be investigated in antenna applications and electromagnetics, such as antenna tuning and reconfigurability, low-loss microwave absorbers, EMI shielding, and wireless sensors where the sensing element comprises some form of chemically functionalized nanomaterial. This short course introduces the basic high-frequency electrical properties of CNTs and graphene, and summarizes state-of-the-art in nanomaterials and their RF and THz applications, including antennas and guided wave devices. Antenna design and their integration with thin films of the nanomaterial used in passive sensor nodes, is discussed. Practical applications of nanotechnology in wireless chemical and biosensors are highlighted at a tutorial level. This workshop provides a tutorial introduction to nanomaterials and state-of-the-art applications of nanotechnology for practical deployment of antennas and related microwave circuitry on sensor platforms.
