The Gordon Conference on Vascular Cell Biology has connected scientists interested in vascular biology, development, signaling and therapeutics for almost 30 years. The 2017 conference will provide cutting edge talks and highly interactive poster sessions dedicated to newly discovered mechanisms of vascular biology and disease and innovative approaches to the treatment of vascular diseases such as atherosclerosis, cancer angiogenesis, vascular malformations and diabetic vascular disease. A distinguishing feature of this meeting is its perspective of the vasculature as functioning organ, with presentations that address the biology of and signaling between endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells and pericytes, as well as immune and inflammatory cells. The conference will bring together leaders in basic science, those focused on translational and disease models of vascular disease, and pharma to address and discuss emerging concepts relevant to all of these cell types. Vascular signaling pathways mediated by intracellular proteins, secreted factors, and fluid and mechanical forces will be discussed in the context of development, homeostasis and disease. Special emphasis will be placed on the science and participation of new investigators and trainees in a relaxed and collegial environment, including social activities that take advantage of the beautiful natural areas and fine weather in Ventura, CA. The goal of this meeting is to promote interactions between researchers in diverse basic science fields with an eye toward relevance to clinical disease and treatment.
