It will be an outstanding pleasure for me to welcome colleagues from all over the world to the upcoming 22nd International Symposium on Radiopharmaceutical Sciences 2017 in Dresden! Dresden is a place with a 60-years history on the development, production and application of radiopharmaceuticals.
Why Dresden? Dresden has been the capital of Saxony for half a millennium. Saxony was a region of mining and manufacturing already in the Late Middle Ages and because it was ruled by open-minded sovereigns it became one of the leading centers during German industrialization. Despite suffering destruction as result of World War II, nowadays Dresden is a place of broad scientific and technological traditions and a center of electronic, pharmaceutical, optical and mechanical engineering industries. The Technical University Dresden – one of eleven German universities that were awarded the title “University of Excellence“ - has about 37,000 students.
No more than 15 km from the city center of Dresden the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden–Rossendorf is situated. This research center with more than 1000 employees from about 50 nations was founded as a “traditional” nuclear research center in 1956 and is nowadays home to cutting-edge research in the areas of energy, health, and matter. Its “Institute of Radiopharmaceutical Cancer Research” can look back to 60 years of research in the fields of radiopharmacy/radiochemistry with special emphasis on radiometal-based radiopharmaceuticals and research towards radiotracers for PET imaging.
Scenically located on Elbe river, Dresden is renowned for its Baroque architecture and is surrounded by a wonderful varying landscape in all cardinal directions and worth to be visited – for scientific as well as touristic reasons!
We hope you will have a fruitful symposium and you will enjoy the ISRS 2017 as well as Dresden!
