Novel nanostructured materials, structures and technologies are contributing to the ongoing photovoltaic exploitation development and to new sustainable, competitive industrial processes. The enhancement of the efficiency of existing solar cells, however, asks for a better light management. This can be achieved acting on two sides, namely by increasing light trapping (e.g. by proper design of the cell structure and the use of plasmonic structures) and by exploting up- and down- frequency conversion phenomena (in particular in glassy materials containing ions of rare earth elements) in order to take advantage of a wider portion of the solar spectrum. This Workshop intends to provide an opportunity for discussion and the knowledge/technology exchange among international experts operating in this field.
