Materials research is undergoing a paradigm shift from largely try-and-error experimentations to materials design guided by theory, computation, data mining. The proposed symposium aims at bringing together both computational materials scientists and experimentalists to report new breakthroughs in materials design and understanding guided by theory, computation, and data mining, in integrated experimental and computational studies of materials, and in validation of predicted/designed materials by experiments.
Design of materials with new chemistry or new atomic/electronic structures
Design of materials with new microstructures/heterostructures, or new defect structures
Design of materials with dramatically enhanced properties under external constraints
Experimental synthesis, characterization, and applications of materials predicted and designed by computation and theory
Combined experimental and computational studies of materials
Computational and data mining tools for materials by design
Experimental synthesis and characterization tools for generating materials data that are needed for computational design
Materials data generation and data mining
Significantly improved understanding of materials through theory and computation
