Researchers now have at their disposal a host of unconventional electronic materials, and new electronic material systems continue to be discovered. What sets many of them apart from traditional electronic materials is their mechanical flexibility - a property that can in principle enable a host of new practical applications. This conference will put the spotlight firmly on the challenges posed - and the exciting opportunities opened up - by flexible electronic media and devices, as we look toward developing an increasingly flexible technological future.
The conference will present three sessions:
Session 1: Flexible opportunities
A general 'overview' session in which the speakers will survey the current state of the most promising areas of 'flexible electronics'.
Session 2: In search of flexibility
Divided into two half-day sessions, session 2 focuses on the detailed fundamental and practical issues that need to be overcome to realise practical flexible electronics, and the various strategies for doing so. The morning talks will have a 'mainly inorganic' flavour; the afternoon talks will focus more on organic systems.
Session 3: Stretching the limits
In this session, the speakers will explore the more unusual/less obvious technologies that flexibility enables.
