Researchers have examined whether students’ mathematical ability is associated with various capacities such as language proficiency, spatial intelligence and working memory. From analyses of data in previous studies, researchers have identified, concurrently, a positive relationship between students’ language proficiency and mathematics performance. They have concluded that it is of great importance to identify and summarize all variables that affect mathematics learning outcomes. A systematic review will be conducted to help answer how many aspects of language are related to mathematics performance and will identify what they are. Further, it will examine if it is possible to enhance students’ mathematics achievement by diminishing students’ cognitive load in language when they are processing mathematics questions, that is to say, whether decreasing the verbosity and increasing the clarity of the learning material in mathematics education will contribute to students’ mathematical proficiency.
