The Course of English Sentence Tree aims at offering an active teaching design of English sentence to English teachers who are worried about teaching monoton- ous lessons on English grammar, and helping English learners who desire to listen, speak, read and write with good competence of sentence knowledge, thus making the grammar lesson interesting. In the course, I managed to apply the method of a tree’s growth to that of Simple Statements’ production, which contains the seed, the root, the trunk, the branch and the leaf. The English Sentence Tree can be used to illustrate all the basic structures of Simple Statements. According to the method of a tree’s growth, every grammatical part of Simple Statements finds it natural way in the tree, performing a role either mainly or secondarily. The course proved effective to inspire my students’ thoughts and furthermore arouse their strong interests of learning English. So far I have applied it to English classes of primary and secondary school students as well as freshmen. In the paper I carefully explicate the scaffolding of English Sentence Tree in different phases in order to be better understood.
