For low-power applications, piezoelectric transducers are often utilized through direct and vibrational excitation. Mechanical energy exists almost everywhere there is movement—vibrations in bridges, wind spinning turbines and human steps onto the floor—and the direct piezoelectric effect inherent in piezoelectric materials converts the mechanical energy into electrical energy. Piezoelectricity can be advantageous in certain applications due to its chemical stability, scalability, and low dependence on environmental conditions, such as temperature and pressure.
The International Workshop on Piezoelectric-Based Energy Harvesting Technology (IWPEHT) is the premier venue for highlighting innovative research and discussion about energy harvesting technology using piezoelectric materials. The IWPEHT is a part of the 8th International Conference on Sustainable Energy Information Technology (SEIT2018) hosting its 8th International Conference, titled “Sustainable Energy Information Technology,” in Porto, Portugal, May 8-11, 2018. The main objective of the workshop is to share experiences and the current status of the technology and benefits of PZT technologies as alternative and ambient energy sources.
The IWPEHT provides an opportunity for faculty, industry practitioners, academic partners, and government institutions to share novel research in individual and collaborative investigations in interdisciplinary and international contexts, and to showcase models of piezoelectric-based energy harvesting technology.
