活动简介

The areas of Big Data processing (IoT, cloud of linked data, data mining) and advanced services based on the most recent technologies (Web 3.0, Service Compositions, Systems of Systems) have been following a continuous and steady development over the last decades through the innovative research and practices of researchers, developers, and practitioners from academia, industry, governmental, and scientific organizations.

The term of Big Data has been coined for representing the challenge to support a continuous increase on the computational power that produces an overwhelming flow of data. Along with Cloud databases, Big Data databases have become important NoSQL data repositories (being non-relational, distributed, open-source, and horizontally scalable) in the enterprise and the science as the center for data analytics and processing, while enterprise data warehouses (EDWs) continue to support critical business analytics. This scenario has claimed for a paradigm shift in the computing architecture, large scale data processing, and analysis mechanisms. In general, this growing demand for large-scale data mining and data analysis applications has spurred the development of novel solutions from both the industry (e.g., analysis of web-data, clickstream, network-monitoring logs) and the science (e.g., analysis of data produced by massive-scale simulations, sensor deployments, telescopes, particle accelerators, genome sequencers).

Services on Internet have become increasingly complex and frequently used in highly distributed, dynamic, and open environments. They are becoming evolving software systems, where constituent services work cooperatively to fulfill specific, complex missions, facing software engineering researchers, and practitioners with substantial challenges. In parallel, Software Ecosystem has also become an important research topic in software engineering, addressing social issues along with technical aspects of software development.

It is expected then, that these both areas find an intersection and advance together: on one hand, we have a huge amount of data to be processed, on the other hand we need suitable services to manege it. Both areas are closely related, also naturally distributed.

The Special Track on Big Data Applications and Advanced Services aims to enable synergy between these areas and provides the premier venue to exchange ideas and experiences, analyze, present, and discuss latest research and development issues, and propose theoretical foundations related to research on combining both areas. The convergence of Advanced Services and Big Data applications will enforce the engineering of intelligent and innovative systems and services supported by mobile web, web 3.0 (semantic and ontologies), Restfull services, IoT, cloud of linked data, data mining, high performance applications, among others, in the context of Big Data.
