In the last decade, industrial control systems (ICS) security had become a serious topic, partly because use of the Internet and use of commodity software brought security challenges to industries that so far had secluded themselves from common IT security threats. Most elements in ICS networks were designed before security was a major concern and contain few, if any, security measures.
ICSs are deployed in the critical infrastructures such as power plants, transportation systems, oil and chemical factories etc.; Therefore, they are expected to be free of vulnerabilities and immune to all types of attacks, which, unfortunately, is practically impossible for all real-world systems. In this workshop, an overview of the security challenges in these areas of research is given. We will discuss on ICS security incidents and cyber-attacks, ICS cyber security solutions and defensive strategies that hopefully clarifies the gaps, which still need to be filled.
