Legal text processing is a research area of natural language processing (NLP) specialized for legal texts. The recent development of NLP, which has entered a period of statistical processing, makes it possible to realize advanced intelligent processing. However, research on the legal domain is still a work in progress due to insufficient language resources. The difficulty also comes from requirements of expertise in law, and the feasibility of legal knowledge bases. Thus far, these problems have been discussed in different fields such as NLP, Legal Informatics, and AI and Law. This special session aims to bring together researchers and developers with all these different backgrounds to discuss and exchange new ideas and the latest achievements in legal text processing.
