Challenges and complications encircling children, women, elderly and disabled people mostly emanate since centuries ago but we are still struggling to find durable solution or improve the situation. Violence, neglect, poverty, arm conflicts, forced migration and displacement, sexual abuse, disparity in education, socio economics discrimination and health issues are some of the unending tribulations. Children, women, elderly and disabled people are considered as vulnerable members of the society; children are vulnerable due to their immaturity, naivity and dependency and women are more vulnerable to abuse than men and suffer from gender discrimination. The elderly are vulnerable when they do not have enough resources to be independent and subject to financial and as well as physical and emotional abuse, exploitation and neglect. Disabled people regardless of gender, age and geographical factors are more susceptible to violation of human rights and denial of participation in the society than the majority of the population. They are made to believe that they are burdensome and less deserving. The fact is, we are all equally entitled to enjoy our life and be respected as human regardless of our age, gender, social background, financial situation, physical ability, citizenship or even political opinion.
Despite countless effort by the communities, states, regional and international organisations, we believe that there is always something that everyone can do to educate and share myriad knowledge in furtherance of the improvement of the life of children, women, elderly and disabled people. Knowledge and education are powerful tools to change the society. Through common understanding and shared vision, the community can progress further in harmony. Thus, THE 3RD PUTRAJAYA INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON CHILDREN, WOMEN, ELDERLY AND DISABLED PEOPLE 2017 (PICCWED3) is a relevant and timely event to boost public participation and understanding in academic discussion regarding children, women, elderly and disabled people.
