The Lavender Languages Conference series has a rich history of examining language use and representation in relation to lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans*, heterosexual and/or queer life, as well as language and sexuality more broadly. The Conference defines discussions of “language” as including all areas of semiosis, including pronunciation, lexical choice, grammar, semantics, pragmatics, sociolinguistics, (critical) discourse analysis, and the analysis of communication in various text genres, modes (spoken, written, signed, multimodal, non-verbal) and media. Historical, literary, and descriptive studies are welcomed, as are performance-centered presentations and poster displays. While the language of presentation is English, research on languages other than English are welcomed and encouraged.
The Conference proudly maintains a “no attitudes” atmosphere to ensure that all attendees will benefit from a welcoming, supportive and collaborative conference space.
