Data Science is an area of extensive research as new applications are emerging from Industry with requirements for real time data analysis of data streams that arrive with high speed, high data volume and in a variety of data formats. Terabytes, even petabytes of data are generated each day in diverse formats such as structured data, plain text data, imaging data, audio and video data. The IEEE International Workshop on Data Science (IWDS) aims at providing a forum for presentation of the latest research results, new technology developments, and new applications in the areas of Data Analytics, Data Mining, Machine Learning, Stream Data Processing, and Data Warehousing. From 2013 to 2016, it has been annually held in Pakistan, Thailand, Korea, and Portugal. The fifth IEEE International Workshop on Data Sciecne (IWDS 2017) will be held on September 13, 2017 in conjunction with the ICDIM 2017 Conference that will take place from September 12 - 14, 2017 in Fukuoka, Japan.
