活动简介

The International Workshop on Water Waves and Floating Bodies is an annual meeting of mathematicians and engineers with a particular interest in water waves and their effects on floating and submerged marine structures. The IWWWFB was initiated by Professor D.V. Evans (University of Bristol) and Professor J.N. Newman (MIT) following informal meetings between their research groups in 1984.
First intended to promote communications between workers in the UK and the USA, the interest and participation quickly spread to include researchers from many other countries around the world. The workshop places particular emphasis on the participation of younger researchers, on the stimulation of discussions between engineers and scientists, and to the presentation of preliminary basic scientific work before its publication elsewhere.
The workshop is an important reference point for organizing and spreading knowledge in this area. In particular, the workshop proceedings are freely accessible through the dedicated internet address www.iwwwfb.org where all contributions from 1986 on can be found.

The 2017 IWWWFB will be held in Dalian, China between 23rd and 26th April. The conference venue is the Howard Johnson Parkland Hotel, located in the heart of the city of Dalian near Xinghai Square and coast. The conference is organized by State key Laboratory of Coastal and Offshore Engineering, Dalian University of Technology (DUT).

The fundamental principle in the IWWWFB has been essentially the same since its inception. That is:

  • The focus of the Workshop should be on water waves and their effects on floating and submerged bodies. Abstracts may be accepted in adjacent fields of speciality, provided they are sufficiently broad or profound to be of interest to this specific field.

  • Abstracts should be of high quality in that new ideas are included in the analytical and/or numerical work. Purely experimental work must emphasize underlying physics. As far as these are satisfied, even incomplete and on-going work can be accepted.

  • The programme will be in the form of a single session and the maximum number of abstracts to be accepted will consequently be restricted to roughly 50-55 papers. Attendance is restricted to authors who have submitted abstracts, regardless of whether they are accepted or not. (Exceptions may exist for sponsors, the past hosts, and session chairpersons.)

  • Sufficient time for discussion will be provided not only just after each presentation but also after the session (during tea and coffee breaks, lunch, dinner etc).

Abstract preparation and submission instructions:
Authors are invited to prepare an abstract a maximum of 4 pages in length.
Prospective participants are asked to submit only ONE abstract as the first and/or presenting author. The number of abstracts from the same working group will also be restricted, depending on the balance in the program.
The body of the text should be single spaced, in 12 point, Times New Roman font (or 12 point LaTeX default font). Use only single-column format. DO NOT number the pages.
The abstract should include the paper title, author(s) name, affiliation, address and email centered at the top of the first page. Please underline the name of the presenting author.
Note: proceedings may be printed in black and white, so authors should ensure that all artwork is legible when printed in black and white.

Abstract Review Procedure and notification:
All submitted abstracts will be peer-reviewed by a small committee comprised of the current hosts and hosts from the past two workshops. Authors will be notified by February 17th, 2017 about the status of their submission. All authors who have submitted an abstract are invited to participate in the workshop. Accepted abstracts will be published in the Workshop proceedings and presented at the Workshop. Authors unable to present an accepted abstract (or find a suitable proxy) and wishing to withdraw the abstract should notify the organizers at the earliest opportunity.
