In this paper, the novel solar water heating system has been proposed that the unique structure lies in the evaporation pipe of the loop heat pipe (LHP). The evaporation and refill of the working fluid were separated by the pipe wall, which will potentially resolve the dry-out problem of the LHP. In order to examine the system performance, the testing rig of the system had been constructed and tested at the laboratory of Guangdong University of Technology, China. It was found that for the simulated radiation at 900W/m2, the system could reach the final water temperature of 61oC, meeting the hot water requirement of the residents. The linear relation between the efficiency and (Tmean-Tamb)/I were well determined. This research will help identify a type of solar water heating system for domestic hot water supply, which will fulfil the targets of reducing carbon emissions and utilising renewable energy resources domestic and worldwide.
