Abstract—The electric strength methods of insulating material are provided by the national standards but different methods may have different results. To solve the problems, the application conditions and the principles are researched by the standards, these electric strength methods for insulating material are compared and optimized through the simulation and the simulation results are verified through experiments. The test results show that the electrode shapes will affect the accuracy of the measurement value of breakdown voltage, and the results are reliable using spherical electrode and built-in electrode.
