Distance based Algorithm for Removal of Salt and Pepper Noise

Denoising is one of the most important pre-processing step in image transmission. In this paper a new algorithm is being proposed for de-noising Salt and Pepper Noise, a noise that occurs at the transmission section. The main principle in spatial reconstruction is obtaining a pixel value that is non noisy from the values in the neighborhood. In this paper Euclidean distance in the processing window is considered and based on the distance the mean operation is performed and the pixels that are noisy are eliminated. This filter has been tested with various standard images and it has been verified to produce improved results when compared to other existing filters with respect to several image quality parameters.
