A Wireless Sensor network consists of sensor nodes that collect local information, process them and send it to a remote base station called as sink. Energy consumption is one of the most important issue in Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) because nodes once deployed are almost irreplaceable. Therefore a major challenge in design of wireless sensor network is development of energy efficient routing protocols that can efficiently find routes in the network. In this work four routing protocols with MAC 802.11 are evaluated to analyze the feasibility of using wireless sensor network in an agricultural land. To find the optimal routing protocol , performance of these protocols are analyzed by comparing end-to-end delay, packet delivery ratio, average energy consumption, throughput and normalized routing overhead. We have simulated using NS-2.34. Simulation results show that DSR is the suitable routing protocol in terms of average energy consumption, packet delivery ratio and normalized routing overhead.
