In the natural state, numerous joints are present in rock masses. These joints are highly susceptible to intense displacement and frictional degradation under the action of external dynamic forces, thereby increasing the risk of rock mass instability. Consequently, to delve into the mechanical characteristics of rock joints under cyclic dynamic loading, this study takes natural red sandstone as the research subject. With normal stress and joint roughness serving as the main variables, an investigation into the shear mechanical properties of rock joints under high - speed cyclic shear loading is carried out. The mechanical properties and deformation evolution laws of rock joints during the high - speed cyclic shear process are explored. Moreover, the deteriorating effects of dynamic cyclic shear loading on the mechanical properties of rock joints are revealed. The findings of this research can offer theoretical underpinnings for the assessment of the safety and stability of rock engineering projects under dynamic disturbance conditions..
