Interactions between the shock wave and disturbed surface, will result in the ejection of particles from the metal surface. The ejected particles have a size of a few to hundreds of micrometers and a velocity of a few kilometers per second, less information that links the ejecta interactions with the gas beyond the rough surface, the gas density, shock wave properties and the initial gas pressure is available. Explosively driven experiments were conducted to characterize the particle-size of ejecta interactions with the gas.
As shown in Figure 1 , we present experimental results the ejecta in 0.51MPa He gas. The eject particles was produced from a high explosive driven shock wave passing through a "V" groove of Sn sample, the particle-size measurements were carried out using digital holography. The free-surface jump velocity is ~1.5km/s, velocity of shock wave passing through He gas is 2.45km/s, fastest ejecta is 2.7 km/s.The fastest ejected particles are breakup and decelerated under the strong aerodynamic force.
