RECENT PROGRESS OF IMAGING SHOCK-RELATED PHENOMINA IN MESO-SCALE USING AN X-PINCH X-RAY SOURCE

摘要
    X-Pinch is an efficient and economical way to generate point-like x-ray radiations with um-scale source size and ns-scale pulse duration, which can be used to probe a wide range of transient processes. Here we report the progress of diagnosing the shock-related phenomena in meso-scale by means of an X-Pinch x-ray source and a 700 m/s table-top gas gun. Several kinds of experiments, such as void collapse in energetic materials and development of surface perturbations under shock-loading has been performed. X-ray images with high time-and-spatial resolutions (0.2-2ns,10um ) were successfully obtained. The X-Pinch facility used in the study were specially designed for diagnosing purpose. By feeding a 400-500kA/70ns current pulse into cross-wire load , soft x-rays in 2-10 keV spectral range with less than 2ns pulse width (FWHM),200 mJ energy (in 4pi spherical angle ) and timing-jitter less than 15 ns could be generated. In the future, continuous work will be made to further improve the quality of the X-Pinch source, and to explore its application in other kind of shock experiments.
