The dynamic response of HMX single crystal under non-shock compression were studied with experiment and simulation. The ramp wave compression experiments of HMX to 15 GPa and 70 GPa were carried out with Photonic Doppler Velocimetry (PDV) and magnetical loading device. The velocity wave profiles show that HMX undergoes elastoplastic transition in the loading section. The velocity wave profiles show a significant downward plateau, which indicates that a
viscoelasticity-plastic process. The experimental data show that there is no first order phase transition of HMX near 35 GPa. The experimental process is simulated with the three order Birch-Murnaghan equation of state and Hobenemser-Prager constitutive relation, and the numerical results can well describe the elastoplastic transition physical processes.
