摘要
Perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) have been controversial for decades, especially perfluorooctane acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS), due to their high stability, superhydrophobicity, bioaccumulation and long-distance migration. As scientific and decision support tools, multimedia fate models play an important role in predicting the behavior of chemicals in the environment. This study used the SimpleBox Multimedia Destiny Model (v4.02) to estimate the impact of global PFOA and PFOS emissions on Arctic pollution. The goal is to explore the routes by which PFOA and PFOS reach the Arctic, predict future trends in Arctic PFOA and PFOS concentrations, and compare simulated and measured values to evaluate the performance of the SimpleBox model. The results indicate that ocean transport and atmospheric transport are the main routes of long-distance transport of PFOA and PFOS to the Arctic, respectively. The performance of the model for atmospheric and seawater media is reasonable, as the estimated concentration is basically within twice the measured concentration. SimpleBox shows that the atmosphere at higher latitudes has higher levels of PFOA, contrary to some measurements. The discrepancy between the simulated and measured values can be attributed to the different emission estimates of their material, the difference in degradation rates, the representability of the monitoring data, and the lack of certain environmental media partitions in the SimpleBox model.
