UHF RFID Indoor Positioning System using Multi-Base Stations and Laiyite-Gaussian Filtering

Thanks to the in-depth research of many scholars in the direction of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), it has been commonly employed in the field of indoor localization. In shopping malls, car parks, libraries, and other large-scale indoor places, the localization scenarios are quite different, and there are multipath and non-line-of-sight (NLOS) effects. To achieve high-precision localization and navigation, filtering methods capable of removing the data noise, as well as localization systems and methods applicable to a wide range of scenarios, are needed. In data preprocessing, this paper proposes to use the Laiyite criterion combined with Gaussian filtering and compares it with the common mean filtering method. This paper employs a UHF RFID indoor localization approach using multiple base stations, each equipped with reader antennas, to determine tag localization by analyzing the phase of emitted signals. A geometric method (three-point localization method) is employed in calculating the spatial coordinates of the target tag, which enhances system efficiency. Experiments show that for the multi-base station RIFD localization system, the proposed filtering method achieves an average localization error of 0.614287039m, which is within the permissible range of error and outperforms both the no-filtering method and the common mean-filtering method in terms of data noise removal effect and localization error.
