Recent astrophysical research driven by radial foil Z-pinch on 10MA facility

Pulsed-power facility was used to provide high energy density conditions that laboratory astrophysics research needs. Recently, some experiments were carried out on 10MA facility to study jet formation, magnetic reconnection and solar filaments. The radial foil Z-pinch with single cathode post was used to simulated jet formation of young stellar jet. Jet velocity and length/radius are given. The tungsten and copper radial foil Z-pinch with double posts was used to study magnetic reconnection. Three-jet structures and x-type structure were found in these experiments. Especially in the aluminum foil experiments with double posts, plasma loop structure was found. The electron density and the size of the loop structure are obtained by comparing the laser shadow results with theoretical calculations. The formation mechanism of loop structure is analyzed, and the results support the magnetic tornado model when explaining the solar filament formation.
