摘要
It is known that a magnetorheological (MR) fluid can be exploited as a valve system utilizing several operating modes; flow mode, shear mode, and pinch mode. Despite many research on the flow and shear mode valve system, the research on the valve system based on the pinch mode is considerably rare. In case of pinch mode in MR valve system, the effective diameter of the flow path can be varied according to the magnetic field intensity and the pressure drop by the flow velocity variation can be easily controlled. However, the previous pinch mode MR valve has a problem that the effect of the pinch mode is extremely small compared to the flow mode due to the block-up region in the flow path. In this work, in order to resolve this problem, a new type of the pinch mode MR damper is proposed. In this study, a mathematical modeling is performed to analyze the flow motion of the proposed pinch mode MR damper. And the characteristics of pressure drop in the pinch mode MR damper are analyzed. Finally, the pinch mode MR damper is fabricated and the damping characteristics is evaluated experimentally.
