Geothermal energy is an indispensable principal energy source for realizing the carbon peak carbon neutral goal. A great number of countries have made beneficial attempts to develop geothermal energy. Although there is a basic agreement on the understanding that geothermal energy originates from magma inside the earth, it is absence of exploration of the deep process of magmatism and unaware of understanding the controlling factors of geothermal resource distribution, which makes geothermal energy exploration difficult. The harmonious metabolism theory of Earth (HMTE) is put forward, which believes that the earth is a bionic complex system. The geocentrically centrifugal force produces regular diastolic and systolic pressures on the mantle magma, resulting in the magma stoping on the crust. It first appears piping in the deep and large fault zones, and forms subsequently a three-dimensional pipeline network of magma runoff circulation system after which is connected various sequences of fracture zones. The magma mainly tends to the poles runoff, and submerges back to the mantle without the endless running. The magma activity acts as the carrier of the Earth's marial and energy.A structured model of the Earth’s material metabolism, energy metabolism and geothermal energy source is established, which demonstrated that magmatism is the endless source of geothermal energy, and is also the driving force for earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. The role of magma runoff system in controlling the spatial distribution of geothermal energy has been inverted, and it has been recognized that geothermal energy is mainly endowed in a horizontal state along the direction of magma runoff in the depth range of spanning a few kilometers to several tens of kilometers in the earth’s crust. It is in line with the direction of the deep and large fracture zones, and that the exploration target areas should be carried out around thermal area, thermal belt and hot spots. Further, it is elaborated that scientific and technological progress is mainly the ability to prospecting whether geothermal energy can be developed on a large scale, and it is recommended to vigorously promote the application  GeoPolariton tomographic system, which is based on the quantum mechanics principle and the world's cutting-edge passive source survey method which can accurately survey at any depth of the Earth.
