Purpose/Aim

The sharing and cooperation of power tower between operators and power grid is an effective way to solve the problem of base station site resources. At present, the four operators and tower companies are actively cooperating with the power sector. However, the sharing pilot and technical demonstration implemented at present do not involve the high-voltage dangerous impact and protection under the condition of short-circuit fault, which undoubtedly lays a great potential safety hazard for the subsequent large-scale popularization and application.

Experimental/Modeling methods

The high-voltage hazard impact in the case of base station sharing high-voltage power tower mainly comes from the power frequency ground potential rise when the high-voltage line is short circuited to the ground and the longitudinal induced electromotive force generated when the metal cable is parallel with the high-voltage line. In this paper, the simulation model of shared tower is built by using CDEGS software, considering the joint grounding and decentralized grounding of communication base station and power tower, The ground potential rise of the two grounding grids is obtained, the mathematical model of the longitudinal induced electromotive force of the shared tower is established, and the influence of the longitudinal induced electromotive force on the communication equipment of the base station is calculated, which provides theoretical support for the high-voltage protection scheme of the shared tower.

Results/discussion

(1) When a single-phase grounding fault occurs in the high-voltage transmission line, a high power frequency ground potential rise will occur at the fault point and near the tower ground grid. At this time, the communication facilities Co located with the iron tower may cause harm due to the influence of power frequency ground potential rise, which is easy to damage the communication equipment and lines and even cause fire.

(2) Parallel laying of communication cables and high-voltage power cables shall be avoided as far as possible to prevent equipment damage and electric shock risk of construction and maintenance personnel caused by longitudinal induced electromotive force caused by magnetic coupling.

Conclusions

When the 5g base station is hung on the power tower, the prior risk assessment of the hazard impact source of the shared power tower shall be carried out, the high-voltage hazard shall be comprehensively considered to affect the safety, and the comprehensive protection measures based on the basic protection principles of safe isolation and joint grounding shall be taken according to the actual configuration and requirements of communication facilities.
