Prupose/Aim

The fault short-circuit current has the characteristics of fast rising speed and large peak current. In order to limit the rise time of fault short-circuit current in power system as soon as possible, this paper proposes a new type of self-driving fault current limiter, which has the characteristics of self-driving, low cost and fast response.



Experimental/Modeling methods

Through simulation and experiment, the influence of geometric structure parameters such as spacing, length, thickness and material characteristic parameters on the current limiting characteristics of the current limiter.



      Results

Increasing the spacing of SD-FCL(self-driving Fault Current Limiter) and decreasing the length and thickness of SD-FCL can significantly improve the current limiting ability of SD-FCL. Reducing the conductivity of the current limiter material can also enhance the current limiting ability of the current limiter.



Conclusions

The comprehensive consideration of geometric structure parameters and material characteristic parameters can be used for reference in the design of current limiter.
