Gas insulated swithgears (GIS) have been widely used in recent years due to its compact structure and high reliability, and thus the amount of installation in the power grid is increasing day by day. With the further expansion of the scale of the power grid, the traditional operation and maintenance mode based on human resources is becoming more and more difficult to adapt to the developing requirements of the power grid, and a more intelligent GIS equipment is required for realizing data interaction and digital transformation. This paper introduces an intelligent GIS based on two novel concepts, the multi-dimensional status merging sensing technology, and the primary and secondary fusion technology, which is used to improve the self-check, self-test, and self-calibration capabilities of GIS. The primary and secondary fusion technology is proposed to solve the problems of complicated relays and cables in the secondary circuit of the control cabinet, as well as difficulty and low reliability in debugging, operation and maintenance. Using standardized PCB circuit boards in place of the complex and non-standard wiring and relays in the control cabinet, the number of cables and the number of relays were reduced to 43% and 25%, respectively. The embedded system is used to simply and reliably realize a series of control and monitoring functions such as inconsistency protect, pressure lock and interlock. Finally, through the reconstruction of the control circuit, the primary equipment and secondary devices of the GIS is fully integrated. The multi-dimensional status merging sensing technology is proposed to solve the problems of lacing intelligent monitoring means, difficulty in timely detection of defects, and insufficient capabilities for data merging analysis in traditional GIS. By integrating over 10 mature and advanced intelligent sensing technologies including gas density, coil current, spring pressure, UHF partial discharge, etc., the real-time evaluation of insulation, partial discharge, machinery and other status information is realized. The sensing data are processed, unified and uploaded to the cloud platform for automatic analysis of GIS status, early warning of defects, intelligent fault diagnosis and decision-making assistance. Finally, the field application of the primary and secondary fusion based intelligent GIS in Zhejiang, China is introduced.
