Purpose/Aim
UAV has great advantages in the substation inspection by virtue of its flexibility and efficiency. It is of great significance to study the insulation level of the gap between the UAV and the high voltage equipment during the inspection process for the safe operation of the UAV.
Experimental/Modeling methods
The three-dimensional modeling software is used to establish the models of UAV and typical equipment in 110 kV substation, and obtain the electric field and potential distribution between UAV and typical high voltage equipment through electric field simulation. Based on the simulation results, the change of gap insulation level in the process of UAV approaching high-voltage equipment is studied.
Results/discussion
Based on the average breakdown voltage gradient of the typical gap, the breakdown distance of the UAV approaching the typical equipment of a 110 kV substation from different directions is about 10 cm. The research results are close to the results of the UAV approaching the transmission line of the same voltage level.
Conclusions
The change of insulation level when the UAV is close to the typical equipment of 110 kV substation is studied, and obtain the critical discharge distance when the UAV is close to the high voltage equipment. The research results can provide a reference for the safe distance control and path planning of the UAV in the substation.
