Study on the Icing Accretion and Flashover characteristics of Heat absorption type anti-icing flashover composite insulator for DC transmission line

DC transmission line has high voltage level and long span distance, and its section crossing heavy ice area is vulnerable to icing hazard, resulting in insulator ice flash tripping fault. In this paper, a new type of heat-absorbing anti-icing flashover composite insulator for DC transmission lines was developed by combining heat-absorbing anti-ice material and umbrella skirt outer insulation structure optimization design, which provides technical guidance for the anti-icing design of DC transmission lines. The live icing and ice flashover tests of new anti-icing flashover composite insulators and ordinary anti-icing flashover composite insulators were carried out, the growth law of icing thickness and ice edge length with icing time was analyzed, and the relationship curves between ice flashover voltage, icing thickness and ice water conductivity were obtained. The results show that under the same icing time, the icing thickness and ice edge length of endothermic anti ice flashover composite insulator are always smaller than those of ordinary insulator, and when the endothermic anti ice flashover composite insulator is applied to DC transmission line in heavy ice area, by reducing the insulator icing thickness, the transmission conductor icing load can be reduced and the insulator ice flashover voltage can be improved, so as to improve the operation reliability of DC transmission line in heavy ice area.
