Polypropylene insulated cable has the advantages of no crosslinking, high transmission capacity, and recyclable insulation material after decommissioning, which is the main direction of the development of environmentally friendly power cables in the future. In this paper, the environmental performance and application economy of polypropylene cables and XLPE cables of the same structure in the life cycle are studied by comprehensive evaluation method. The results show that in the selection of raw materials, the comprehensive energy consumption of the polypropylene device is half of the comprehensive energy consumption of the polyethylene device, and the carbon emission is greatly reduced; In the manufacture of cables, the processing cost of medium-voltage polypropylene cables is reduced by more than 17.3% compared with cross-linked polyethylene cables. In addition, after the decommissioning of polypropylene cables, most of the materials can be recycled. In addition, the equivalent carbon emission per kilometer of 10kV polypropylene insulated power cable is 3911.5 kgCO2e throughout its life cycle. Therefore, the development of thermoplastic polypropylene insulated cables can effectively promote the environmental protection of medium-voltage cables and solve the environmental protection problem of power cables.
