摘要
In this study, a new application of tactile paving, street-crossing tactile paving was proposed for street-crossing locations. The study aims to identify the characteristics considered by people with visual impairment in their effectiveness evaluation of the street-crossing tactile paving. Data were collected through one-on-one interviews and analyzed by structural equation model. The results show that normalization has a highly positive effect on safety and guidance of the street-crossing tactile paving, both of which have a direct impact on the effectiveness of street-crossing tactile paving. Non-motorized vehicles are one of the biggest threat for people with visual impairment when crossing the street and it is the high time to create a safer environment on crosswalk. Conclusions from this study could provide theoretical guidance for the planning and installation of street-crossing tactile paving. Problems arose on interviews among people with visual impairment were also discussed in this paper.
