Based on the analysis of relevant standards such as highway design, highway construction and highway operation, and the extensive empirical research, this paper proposes a decision model for the classification of important sections and points of highways, which incorporates multiple factors such as road alignment, environmental impact and traffic composition. Then based on the analysis of traffic monitoring equipment application technology and oriented to the of highway traffic management and control needs, the comprehensive setting requirements of various traffic monitoring equipment at important sections and points of highway is proposed. The various traffic monitoring equipment including traffic incident video detecting equipment, video evidence collecting equipment for road traffic offence and traffic meteorological environment monitoring equipment, etc. The research results of this paper will help to determine the important sections and points of highway traffic management and improve the level of traffic perception and emergency response.
