——人机结合反馈模式行动研究



优质、足量、及时的反馈对写作能力的提高至关重要。针对目前大学英语教学课时少、班额大,教资有限的现状,本研究利用iWrite 英语写作教学与评阅系统及时便捷的优点,结合教师精准深入的靶向点评,实施了为期12周的两轮行动研究,对人机结合反馈模式进行了探索。 第一轮针对问卷结果所反映的学生需求,教师对机评低、中、高分数段的议论文典型习作分结构、内容和语言对照点评。第一轮行动后个别访谈、学生修改痕迹和系统平台数据分析显示,学生对议论文的结构和内容有了清晰的认识并能够运用于写作当中,但是语言问题依然顽固。 第二轮行动中,教师针对平台统计出的突出的语言问题,分析学生语料,补充课外资源,布置相应练习。第二轮结束后,系统数据、问题单和访谈结果显示:这种人机结合反馈模式优势互补,师生均很受益。人机结合反馈模式是教学的大趋势,进一步探索如何让技术助力教学,有很大的现实意义和应用价值。



Targeted teacher feedback in the teaching of EFL writing

-An action research on a combining mode of teacher and automated feedback on L2 writing



Adequate and timely feedback can improve L2 students’ writing abilities and consolidate language learning. In view of the reduced teaching hours, large classes, and limited teaching resources, this study aimed to explore an effective feedback mode of human-machine combination. A two-round action research was implemented over 12 weeks. In the first round, in response to the students’ needs of teacher feedback reflected in the questionnaire, the teacher reviewed and compared the structure, content and language of students’ essays automatedly rated as typical of the low, medium and high level. Interviews, student revising traces and data analysis showed that the students had acquired a better understanding of the structure and content of essays, but language remained a consistent problem. In the second round, based on the data analysis of error types and error frequency in the automatic evaluating system, the instructor used learners’ writing as samples, replenished extracurricular resources, and assigned corresponding exercises. Results of the questionnaire, interviews thereafter and platform data analysis indicated that with this mode of combination, teacher feedback could be more accurately targeted to student need, thus benefiting both teachers and students. As automated writing evaluation is increasingly indispensable to teaching writing, it is necessary and significant to further our exploration into some more effective modes.
