Application of [TBA][PO2Cl2] in Arylphosphines (PIII) Synthesis

Given the high demand for organophosphorus compounds (OPCs), developments of sustainable routes toward OPCs synthesis attract much attention. Numerous efforts are contributing to P4 transformations into P1 chemistry. Nevertheless, the existing methods necessitate energy-immense multistep often utilize corrosive and dangerous reagents originating from P4/Pred allotropes, harmful intermediates, and chemical waste, impeding further exploration and practical applications. In this study, we synthesized [TBA][PO2Cl2] by preactivating phosphate with oxaloyl chloride, followed by reduction using a reducing agent to obtain a low-valence phosphosilicon intermediate [TBA][P(SiCl3)2].[1-3] This intermediate was then used to synthesize a range of trisubstituted organophosphine compounds, including functionalized trithiophosphates and triarylphosphines.[4] The potential value of these compounds lies in their ability to reduce reliance on the industrial white phosphorus pathway. X-ray diffraction and DFT calculations confirmed the activation of the intermediate [TBA][PO2Cl2].
