As a food and medicine dual-purpose plant, Chrysanthemum has been widely used in people's life from ancient times because of its multiple therapeutic and health effects. However, different varieties of Chrysanthemum usually have different bioactivities, probably because the kind and content of the major phenolic bioactives they contained were different. In this work, a simple and fast, accurate and reliable high performance liquid chromatography coupled with diode array detection (HPLC-DAD) based assay has been established and successfully applied for simultaneously quantitative analysis and comparison of the major phenolic compounds in Chrysanthemum morifolium, Florists chrysanthemum and Coreopsis tinctoria (C. tinctoria).
Chrysanthemum morifolium, Florists chrysanthemum and C. tinctoria were extracted, and the content of six compounds in the crude extracts of three varieties of chrysanthemum was determined intensively. Fig. 1 shows chromatograms of Chrysanthemum morifolium, Florists chrysanthemum and C. tinctoria extracts.
