The comparative studies between translation theories has become increasingly important and indispensable in today’s globalized context, which has directly contributed to translation studies as an independent discipline gaining worldwide recognition, and the rationale of the discussion is that important insights may be gained about the nature of translation and translation studies in general by bringing culturally disparate translation traditions such as the Chinese and Western into comparison and all theoretical discussions will contribute to the cultivation of translators’ recognition on translation. Facing escalating requirements for translator training, how to innovate teaching materials to meet the needs of translation trainees and researchers has become an urgent task to undertake in the mainstream of comparative translation studies. Based on a theoretical retrospection of the comparative translation studies, the author analyzes the relation between translation theories and translator’s training by necessities and feasibilities. By comparing over 20 books on translation theories of high recitation and wide spreading, the author summarizes and compares the features of course books on translation theories published by western and Chinese scholars from the ontological, epistemological and methodological perspectives. By conducting a case study on A Coursebook of Chinese and Western Translation Theories, the author concluded the methods for a course book to be classic, systematic and reader-oriented, and also provided some advice for future editions of coursebooks on translation theories from the internationalization view, the disciplinary identity and theoretical advances.
