This project aims at consolidating and revitalizing English and translation pedagogy with dual emphasis on intercultural communication competency and international competitiveness, ultimately to contribute to the cultural soft power and international discourse right of China.
In order to achieve this aim and to realize the market requirements as well as the significant needs in the new era of China, we are proposing a new training “International Competitiveness and Competency” (ICC) model at tertiary level. It refers to the new combination of intercultural communication competency and international competitiveness as the teaching and learning outcomes by means of integrating the following five components in course contents and the whole curriculum design: (1) English language and translation competency (2) National value (3) Expertise of subject matters (4) Professional ethics and image and (5) Practical assessment. This paper is based on our completed research findings of “Innovating Translation Pedagogy fitting into One-Belt Road Policy” funded by the Higher Education Teaching Reform Project of the Guangdong Ministry of Education.
