A standard is a document that provides requirements, specifications or guidelines that can be used consistently to ensure that materials, products, processes and services are safe, reliable and high-quality. For international trading, standards are effective instruments that reduce costs by minimizing waste and increasing efficiency. They provide a workable basis for manufacturers and traders to have better access to international markets, which significantly facilitate global trade. This paper provides a brief introduction to classification and characteristics of the current standards for oil country tubular goods in the beginning. The difficulties and problems in standards implementation are discussed in three aspects: standard system aspect, user application aspect and manufacturer aspect. Finally, based on the experience of market practice, a set of recommendations for the standards implementation and future directions are proposed.
