The Urbanization of Abu Dhabi City through time Towards a Smart City

Abu Dhabi and UAE in general is going toward sustainable development and has set big targets that match the government vision and the community’s needs and wishes to live healthy, wealthy and safe. Through time, Abu Dabi city has known a high and accelerating rate of urban changes. A detailed classification allowing the modeling of mixed land use would be desirable for better understanding and interpreting the evolution of the use of land and highlight the urban changes. Multi-temporal remotely sensed imagery was acquired and integrated to establish the basis for change detection and process analysis. The result showed a radical transformation from bare soil to settlement that proves the study area, and Abu Dhabi city in general is facing a rapid urbanization and a fast-urban development. Such fast urbanization calls for a sustainable development and a smart planning to maintain a sustainable and smart city.
