A review of maptable-based interactive Planning Support Systems

Despite various innovations and improvements of Planning Support Systems in recent years, scholars still observe a limited uptake of such systems in planning practice. As one response to that implementation gap, PSS are increasingly implemented on interactive maptables, which are developed to improve stakeholder participation in planning and decision making processes. The paper provides a systematic review of such maptable based PSS. Through a systematic review, 16 studies were identified. Results show that tools and applications have become more sophisticated and complex in recent years, and goals of the applications changed from collaboratively designing interventions to observing and understanding how the application of such tools contributes to improved plan outcomes and group based learning
