A study on the trend of setting the facility with nursing and medical in Japan according to the provision of medical and nursing care services

In Japan, the population of the elderly continues to increase despite the declining population. Toward 2025, the peak of nursing care for the elderly, the elderly support system of the country is going. In this research, we picked up of the new facilities in that policy. After that, we call it “the facility with nursing and medical” in this study. The facility with nursing and medical is a facility that has functions as daily medical care, nursing care, and both management for a daily life.

We investigated the number of beds at facility entry service and the actual number of users and the future estimate from the nursing-care insurance business plan in the area where facility Installation is progressing. From this survey, we obtained data on the number of users and elongation rate of each nursing facility.
We also examined the number of hospital beds in the medical facilities from the reports of the bed of hospitalization function in each place. From the survey, we got data on the tendency of increase and decrease for each type of inpatient bed.
Using the 26 variables extracted from total 98 kinds of data including the above-mentioned nursing care / medical service provision data and regional statistics, we classified 62 areas including the area where installation of this facility is progressing into 6 types by cluster analysis. And in some areas, clarify the necessity of this facility, we got clues to judge the necessity of this facility in the areas throughout Japan.

In addition, we obtained data on hospital stay days for hospitalized patients living in Utsunomiya city located provincial area. Based on this data, we grasp the medical institutions where many long-term hospitalized patients exist. We divided these medical institutions into several areas in the city. We examined converting the ward of a medical institution where there are many long-term inpatients for each area set up in this way to the facility with nursing and medical. As a result of this analysis, in Utsunomiya city, we got a suggestion that it is necessary to convert with increase of beds to the facility, and so on, in at least 2 areas.

There is public healthcare system in Japan. Therefore, regardless of income, everyone can receive medical and nursing care. For that reason, care services and nursing care facilities in elderly have selectivity. We hope that the facility with nursing and medical will spread to Japan in order to maintain public healthcare system in the future.
