Mixed reality technology combines virtual reality technology and augmented reality technology. It is a further extension of virtual reality technology and is currently used in medical and military fields. How-ever, due to the immature technical development in the field and the lag of the architectural design teaching mode, the current mixed reality technology has less research on the promotion of students' architectur-al space cognitive ability in architectural design teaching. We designed a controlled experiment to explore the contribution of the Microsoft Hololens display design to the cognitive capacity of students' architec-tural space. Students can compare the differences between traditional drawing models and Microsoft Hololens in presenting the design. In the experiment, Microsoft Hololens has better performance in three-dimensional building volume, facade material, functional partition, in-door space and so on. However, when the overall relationship be-tween the building and the surrounding environment is perceived, the traditional drawings and models have better modes. As technology ad-vances, Microsoft Hololens will greatly contribute to the improvement of students’ architectural spatial cognition.
