The energy demand will continue to increase while transition to renewa-ble energy is on its way. Considering the many required sustainable ener-gy measures affect the entire spatial environment, an integral vision is desired. It can provide better decision support to deal with the spatial consequences of new energy sources in the environment. In this study, an agent based model is established, which can generate sustainable ur-ban planning maps in a GIS framework. This model applies a heuristic optimization approach to simulate the spatial location allocations of vari-ous renewable energy sources in the SRE-area, the Netherlands. Under various scenarios the different renewable energy sources can be compared on their spatial affects and provide decision support in the development of sustainable urban areas.
