With the increase of sampling rate ,the application of wavelet-based electromagnetic time reversal (WEMTR) method to the transmission line with series compensator will lead to fault location results deviate greatly from the real fault points in a small section when two-phase fault and three-phase fault occur. In view of this, on the basis of analyzing the causes of misjudgment, the traveling wave fault location principle, which does not rely on accurately capturing the time of signal mutation, is proposed to carry out initial position determination and is used as the screening criteria for the final results obtained by WEMTR. ATP/EMTP simulation results show that this method can effectively eliminate misjudgment and make the fault location for series compensated line based on WEMTR more universal.
