Study on Diamond and Cubic Boron Nitride Composites

Cubic boron nitride is a synthetic super-hard material that is chemically stable and is often used to make abrasives, but the hardness of cubic boron nitride is much lower than that of diamond. In this paper, structural simulation of cubic boron nitride and diamond is carried out, and its basic physical properties is predicted, which provides theoretical guidance for the subsequent synthesis of special super-hard materials.
We use cubic boron nitride as the matrix to replace the diamond structure on the three crystal faces (111), (110) and (100). It is found that the structures grown on the (111) and (110) planes are stable. Comparing the bond length and bond angle of the composite structure, it is found that the structure away from the interface is the same as the structure of the monomer, and the influence of the interface is known to have a range.
This work analyzes the electronic properties of two structures that can be stably present. It is found that the structure grown on the (111) plane has a conductor characteristic, and the growth mode of (110) is a direct semiconductor with a band gap of 3.467 eV. This is a new discovery of composite materials that provides direction for the next study.
